Biography

Dzikra Afifah was born in Bandung 1998, currently works and lives in Bandung. Working primarily with ceramics, she employs a particular method of hollowing—a process of shaping solid clay forms and then carving them from within, inviting both deformation and transformation through the firing process. Her works emerge from this embodied process, shaped through sustained physical engagement: kneading, carving, carrying, waiting, firing. Dzikra’s works unfold space of negotiation where the boundaries between artist and material, process and context, are continually redefined and inseparable from the labour, empathy, and uncertainty that brought it into being. In this way, Dzikra’s practice engages deeply with the physical, historical, and social dimensions of material.
In 2022, Dzikra received the Young Artist Award at ARTJOG, and in 2024, she was named an Honorary Winner of the 8th Bandung Contemporary Art Award (BaCAA).
